Chipmunks

Chipmunks are actually a part of the rodent family, although they generally do not carry disease like most other rodents. Chipmunks can be found in trees or running around your yard eating seeds, nuts, and fruits.

They cause a problem when they begin to burrow underground, making this an entry into your home for other damaging pests.

Raccoons

Raccoons are well known for their curious and mischievous behavior in your outdoor trash cans. They generally live beneath porches, attics, and chimneys. They can cause a problem for homes and businesses since they will constantly overturn trash leaving a huge mess for the business or homeowner to clean. Not to mention their ability to carry rabies, a health risk to humans.

Squirrels

Most squirrels are harmless, however, the thirteen-lined squirrel is known to cause damage to plants and soil. They bury themselves underground and can create a problem for building foundations, golf courses, laws, and gardens. You’ll find these little guys most active in the spring.

Possums

Possums can grow to be as large as a cat. They can be found living under buildings, hollow logs, garages and inside burrows. Homeowners will notice them in a garbage car or in the attic. They are a problem because they eat just about anything and can damage lawns when they dig for grubs.

Skunks

The skunk is easy to identify because of its black fury coat and white strip along its entire body and tail. They are most well known for their smelly war dances to scare away threats. On one hand, skunks are great because they eat rodents that we as humans can’t stand, such as rats, mice, moles, shrews. Yet, on the other hand, skunks can be very harmful to property and domestic animals. Not to mention their health concern for humans. Like the raccoon, they are known to carry rabies, a disease that causes serious health problems.

Bats

Generally, bats come out in the early spring and leave during the winter months to warmer places. Lucky for us, we live in a place that’s warm year round, so you guessed it, they never really leave us here in Puerto Rico! Bats can invade a home through very small openings in and around your home. Homeowners will hear them, as well as see their droppings, but can be difficult to control since they are most active at night. They also raise a health risk to humans because, although rare, they have been known to carry rabies.

Lizards

Lizards do not infest homes but often come in simply by accident looking for things to eat, like bugs. They don’t bite or cause harmful effects on humans but are considered a pest. Reducing vegetation and limiting outdoor lights can be helpful in protecting your home from these visitors.

Birds

There are some birds that have become a public health threat because they carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans. Bird droppings can cause unsanitary conditions for outdoor patios and restaurants, as well as eat away the outsides of homes or buildings.

Iguanas

Iguanas are common species on the island and are generally not considered a pest until they are always in your yard. They come and go and do not cause health risks to humans. If you want to relocate this pest, give us a call, we can help.
